As it is well known that the marble mausoleum was built in the memory of his late wife Arjumand Banu Begum, a Persian price and the third wife of Shah Jahan. She became popular as Mumtaz Mahal, after her marriage to Shah Jahan.
The emperor loved her not just for her beauty, but for her compassion and generosity. She also accompanied him on his military campaigns. Mumtaz died while giving birth to their fourteenth child, during a military campaign to defeat a rebel commander. The emperor couldn’t bear the loss of his favorite wife; he was heartbroken.
To overcome his loss and honour the wishes of his dead wife, Shah Jahan ordered to build a tomb on the bank of Yamuna river overlooking his Palace in Agra.

The architecture of this translucent white marble is perfectly symmetrical. This concept is showcased throughout the built and four sides of the monument are built on the principle of self – replication. The monument was designed in Indo – Islamic style; the structure consists of both arches and domes that increase the aesthetic aspect. Timing And Entry Fee.
Taj Mahal is open for visitors throughout the week except on Fridays. On a regular day, the gate is opened 30 minutes before Sunrise and closes 30 minutes before the sunset. The entry fee for visiting this Monument varies from 250 to 1200, depending on the nationality. The tickets can be purchased near the entry gate and also e-booked.
